Discovering Persian carpets
Persia is home to some of the world’s finest knotted carpets. Knotting and weaving were already practiced thousands of years before the birth of Islam, and the motifs and symbols still used today sometimes date back to prehistoric times. For Iranians, the carpet is an everyday, practical object, both an outward sign of wealth and an evocation of an art of living. Through its symbols and beauty, it also conveys cultural and spiritual values.
These two itineraries will take you to the places where carpets are made, to the workshops, to meet the weavers and craftsmen, far from the tourist clichés, and as close as possible to the cultural, economic and local realities of an important production. The program description is minimal, because this trip is first and foremost an encounter with a living art form, illuminated by a specialist. Depending on the location and the time available, it will always be possible to propose cultural visits during the trips.
