The rail network is relatively less developed than the road or air network, but the train covers major routes and crosses spectacular mountainous landscapes. The first Iranian railway line is the Trans-Iranian, registered by UNESCO in 2021 . Built between 1927 and 1938, it connects the Caspian regions to the Persian Gulf, via Tehran, the country’s capital, and Ahvaz, to the southwest, the oil capital.

Information on trains can be obtained on the official website of the Iranian railways (Raja Rail Transportation) or on an unofficial site, created by an Austrian, but very rich in information (Iran Rail. We are partners of the Iran-Switzerland Friends Association, which frequently organizes train trips in Iran. We can also offer you tailor-made itineraries , combining a comfortable train (1st class, an entire compartment just for you) and visits.
